Talk Cock Session: "Julian are you dating a Malay girl?"
I'm not the type that share with my parents about who I'm dating or who I'm seeing now... To me, stuff like that are pretty much "my business". Well not that it isn't their business 100% lah, but ... I was never the type that share that much info. with my family.
Ever since mom went back to West Malaysia, I obviously never talk to her more about these kinda stuff (let's just say me and my mom are very different characters, so sharing is not exactly caring in this situation..kof kof). But today I got a weird message from her...
Wah!!! Got "spy" some more in KK ah? She must have hired some damn expert fellas to stalk me!!!
The experts:
Mr. Ular Solid

& Mr. Split-er Cell

No lah mom... reason why I date a Malay girl, is because I want to star in the next Yasmin Ahmad's movie bah...

kekekeke...

Truth is mom, me & her... WE REALLY AREN'T THAT DIFFERENT...

I think it would be a shock if, "Are you dating a malay guy?"
p/s: I tot she's a bajau?
LOL XD
kick oh ur mum ada spy XD
Yo Julian,
Your mom not agree kah on your relationship with Fara?
Fara nice girl..
i think she just concern whether you know what are behind, if there will be a long-term commitment between both of you. you know lah, kahwin.
if i am not mistaken, non-muslim needs to be converted to muslim if he marry a muslim. n you would get a muslim name. most traditional chinese seniors are quite uneasy with that (but not bcoz they don't like other race and religion).
imho, it is better you can understand the feeling of your parents and don't overly reacted to create tension with your family. i don't think they have problem if you both what you are doing and know what it will take. no matter what, i support both of you.
correction.
since when fara was malay. she's only muslim, not malay.
we have the same situation, i mean im dating a malay guy not girl, but now my family can accept him...sure ur mum can accept her as well soon...
n yea fara is a very nice girl, ur so lucky... :)
Edgar is right,
No one calls himself/herself a Malay in Sabah, unless those Melayu baru@pilaks or those from a specific political party..
Normal stuff...
Ooh... I just know she is Bajau XD
But neways I hate it when people call me Malay too... ~_~ haha
But this kind of thing is so common already...
But from the sms, your mum only tells you to think twice bah... haha
Didn't say you cannot date her...
nothing wrong to date or marrying a muslim (not just malay) girl. sepet not a good reference or example for a cross racial malay chinese relationship. it just represent the goodies and not the other things such as all the do and don't and the stereotype perspective in the chinese mindset.
i myself bump with a lots of nice pretty malay girl while in uni. they all are great and nice but there is something that not fit well in me as getting a relationship with a muslim girl. i still love to live as what am i now as a chinese person and not ready to gave it all out.
so, the bottom line for me is just a good friend. most of my top 10 list good friend surprisingly malay and muslim friend. they can be a good and worthy friend compare to my own and other race.
all the time i knew you and read your blog, i realized that you're more happy and fun with fara compare to the previous one. if it was me, i make the same choices as you too. what the hell with the chinese stereotype mentality.. right? at the end, its is all about happy or not no matter you got your (kof!kof!) cut or not.. ekekeek!!! :D
Ali/Irene.. Nooooo~~~ me no bajau XD XD XD
People asked me before what race am I. Well.. growing up saying/saying/registering myself as a Malay, when I say I am a Malay, especially after I'm back from KL, si sotong a.k.a julian sez there's no such thing as malay race here in sabah. Now I dunno what to call myself haha!
My dad is orang sungai from kinabatangan, sandakan and My mom is from kelantan XD so go figure lah. LOL!
As for converting, well, i understand julian's mom's concern. But for the name change (muslim name) it's only for registration purposes just for hajj in the future. Julian can still carry his sotong name :)
But lalalala... hard to say anything now. Of course me love sotong very much.. ngeeeeee =3. But jodoh di tangan tuhan~~~ What am looking forward to now is to get to know and love sotong more in years to come
*skips away*
:) thank you those who supported us. Means a lot.
haiyya, julian, don't let any idiot tell you you HAVE to change your name, or CUT the tip of your brudder.
it's NOT compulsory in god's eyes.
my husband's name tan yew leong last time, now still tan yew leong. unfortunately for him, his mother got his brudder tip cut when he little boy. if she never, for sure i ask him keep... cute mah? but must wash properly and regularly lah! otherwise wait got cheese. hehe!
and don't listen to jefferi about it being hard to be with someone from another race. i've had it easy. so does that make my married life less valid than those of people who had shit in theirs? you reap what you sow.
cheers!
ps: love your pepet... poster, that is.
LOL!!!
Love you comment Kak yasmin. Laughed out loud in my ofc reading your reply. Indeed, it's true. Love in different religion/race is another way to see whether the two of us can really overcome whatever circumstances ahead. Just like your film. Loved it!
They say that a lot of problems will arise if you're in a relationship with someone that has different race/religion or that kind of relationship will not last long, etc...
Hello! Having relationship with someone with the same race/religion are not exactly beds of roses either! There will always some ups and downs with any kind of relationships.
Julian, Fara,
Bah I think its the normal for Sabahans to kawin campur campur kan, masa dulu dulu pon ramai yang buat bagitu, inda paya convert pon, cuma 10 years++ ago change of State Government caused some rules to be forced on kawin campur antara Muslim and agama lain, mo ikut style Malaya bah tu..
Fara,
Ko ni urang Sungai ni Moi, Sabah teda urang Melayu, yang ada pon Melayu baru@kumplits or bangsa lain yang mengaku urang Melayu konon, inda tau malu saja ni urang..
Anyway Julian and Fara, wish your relationship will bear fruit ya!!
Bah Bah...
A letter issued by the Peninsular Malaysian Bishops advising the faithful about the implications of converting to Islam
Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord,
If you convert to Islam, there are important changes in your legal status and what you can or cannot do. Your conversion to Islam will be registered with the Religious Department and the National Registration Department, both of which are computerized so access to this information is available throughout the country.
Under Syariah enactments of most of the 13 states of Malaysia:
1.Conversion back to your former religion is either (a) not allowed under the law or (b) a criminal offence which means that you may be fined, whipped, detained or imprisoned under most State Islamic laws.
2.If you are under 18 years of age, you require your parents' permission to convert to Islam.
3.Your identity card will record your conversion to Islam. Therefore, even if you are no longer practising Islam, you may be fined, whipped, detained or imprisoned for violation of Syariah laws, such as praying in church, eating in public during fasting month, khalwat, etc.
4.You cannot marry a non-Muslim. If you decide to divorce and attempt to convert out of Islam, you will lose custody of your children because they are Muslims.
5.Upon death, your non-Muslim relatives will lose their rights to any property, money, etc that you want to leave to them. The corpse of a convert to Islam will be taken away from his or her non-Muslim family for Islamic rites and burial even if one has not been a practising Muslim for many years.
6.In the event that your spouse converts to Islam, you may have no right to either your children or your spouse's property.
We know that certain Christians who convert to Islam for whatever reasons are not aware of or do not consider seriously the implications of such conversion. Hence, the need to inform you.
By this, we are neither against Islam nor freedom of religion, which is guaranteed for all Malaysians in Article 11 of our Constitution, which gives the right to an individual to choose freely his or her religion. But to choose correctly, you need to know clearly what you choose and the consequences of your choice.
Walao~ ur mak~ GENG LOR!!! got spy one~ XD totally spies or chalie angel~ XD
Such a difficult thing.. Let me tell you I have a friend who is already married for 5 years and got two kids now. The husband still a Catholic and the wife is Muslim. It is up to the husband to decide if he is ready or not to become a muslim and it still legal. That is all up to the individual itself the choice is your hand. Whichever it is I'm happy for you.
WOW!!! How on earth did a "talk cock session" end up with so many feed backs 0.o
It's ok people, let me deal with the "serious & boring stuff" in the real world... my life is not THAT drama 1. XD
Ali> yes... truth is, Im a woman & Fara is a guy... LOL
mas> spIES... SPIES I TELL U!!!
Janet> No Janet, She's a "naughty" girl... kof kof...
Murphy> Hehehe, yeah. I oso told Fara that I must keep the "LEE". Waaachaaaaa~~~!!!
Edgar> Sabah tiada Malay punya bah... LOL
Amy C> Thanks :)
IRTea> Ha? I didnt say she told me cannot date her oso? o.0
Jeff> Yes, Im happy. :)
Fara> Yes... BB loves my soto... I mean yes Im a lovable sotong... kof kof... XD
Yasmin> Wah! Kak Yasmin, this is the 2nd time I jumpa u here. :) Dont worry, I prefer butter not cheese. LOL! Anyway, cant wait for Kak Yasmin's next film! :D
momorina> Betul.. betul.
Zack> We start farming to bear some fruits... u like apples or orange? XD
Harry> Thanks for the info. :)
Sakuya> Those spies: "Yeeeaaaahhh Baby~ Yeeaaaahhhh~"
Jollence> Thanks Bro. :)
kakak yasmin,
true, some had is easy and some not. you're blessed to be with someone you love and different race. i'm happy to read something about your chinese husband as it is the inspiration for your excellent SEPET movie.
i'm myself had a similar but not exacly experience (obviously not couple la.. hehe) with a malay girl. looking at yasmin's movie remind me a lots of her especially at the fast food outlet chatting. haha.. but not until night la.. ;) ketara nanti kana sogit ni.. :D
yes, the *snip *snip ceremony not nessesary if be with a muslim girl thou it has to depend to the family if they allow their girl to be married a man without *snip *snip. if they okay with it.. that would be good news for our dear friend jullian. XD
the idiot who telling the changing name was instead telling the truth and this is a main stereotype chinese mentality. true enough it is no need to put "abdullah" at the back or throw away the family surname but a new muslim name needed along side with the previous name at the back. i don't know if the family's surname will be passed down to the children or not. that what most the our idiot elderly fear most.
believe it or not, there will be some resistance among the families especially from the mom that should be well seriously taken care, explained and understood. i'm not saying this to scare off my friend. just telling another side of stories that deserved to be heard and not as fast to be expelled as an insane word from someone idiot or stupid.
ps - julian, you got the attention from kakak yasmin. now, have to wait for a good script for her to call you to screen test for her latest movie.. XD
i support Julian & Fara! yes~ even though you are a Muslim (in Malaysia) you can still put your surnames in your childrens' names. But the children have to be Muslim la~ >.<
seriously, there are a lot of misconceptions about this kind of stuff. and people can be very tactless when making comments of ignorance (speaking from experience here). its less evident in Sabah & Sarawak.. but the misconceptions and discrimination is slowly seeping into Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.. which is kinda sad really..
i love the children.. they don't discriminate... but its the adults (and elders) who are teaching them to discriminate among one another.. T_T
Life goes on!!!!
Im dating a malay guy?? So?...
Im HAPPY..VERY happy!!!
Your battery is running low..haha
OMG lucy LOL!
Lek ba ko Julian....
In Sabah the terms Malay is equivalent to Muslim.
Kadazan equivalent to Christian
or Cina equivalent to Buddhist tapikong.
That's the terms word use since Party Berjaya reign Sabah old decade ago.
But yeah... I feel ya just kept it as yourself as long you know what ya doing.. Boleh bah kalau kau kan.
Yasmin - Racial Issues in Sabah is not that sensitive like in the west side but Parents as their guardian or angel always worried about this bah!! besa tu.
Anyway, Are you interested doing movie about Sabah?
Sia pupport kamurang nie. I myself am dating a chinese gurl. No problem, just parents concern. ;)
Fara: My bad for the err! The Goddess from Kinabtangan River. hehehe..
Julian: Keep the LEE! Wachaaa!! (p/s: pepet= sounds 'naughty' LOL
Momorina: Its only a prob, if we make one.
Flanegan: Yes, big mix up since Berjaya time; its time for US to share & educate.
p/s: Great Idea on the Sabah movie! Lets talk more bout dat!
From all the comments i gather here, I rest my case that there are No Malay's in Sabah..
One race, One Nation! "Orang Sabah!" Kiihoooi!
i was told this by one of the minister.. we all live harmoniously in sabah because we dont ask this 2 questions..
1) What is your religion?
2) What is your race?
why?
because we all here already know that we should respect and treat everybody equally.. this is the reason we dont have such thing like '@#$% riot' in town.. there's no such issue about those 2 things like some other states..
im proud to be sabahan..
Jules,
Ur blog is now officially the blog in which i wrote my FIRST comment for 2009 !! XDD
To our dearest Jules and Fara, you two are NOT the only couple consisting of people from diff races in your circle of friends btw.
Seriously, your mom should go out more...and tell her to look around more often...
Heck, she should at least get to know Fara first before she sends out the spies! XD
Wish you and Fara all the best dude!
Dengan itu, saya mohon menyokong.
Thanks guys. :p
