Do Sabah Bloggers need an association???
Well ok, so Dino, me & Jacq did went for an interview with Daily Express recently... We got the call for an interview & thought it must be about the SBG event that was held recently.
During the interview, it was less about the event & generally more about Sabah Bloggers... we didnt mind.
We appeared the following day (i was surprised that it was THAT fast) & some people actually SMS & buzzed me to check the papers coz a sotong was in it. I was excited at 1st. But honestly the title of the article was not what I though it would be about...
(O... bukan tu kisah "rape-rape" tu ah...wasn't me... yang di bawah tu baru ngam... kof kof... picture credit to massy)
Let me just say this: I do not remember me, Dino nor Jacq saying that we ARE goin to form a blogger association... ... ... I remeber saying:"There's no plan for that YET". I think either our words were misinterpreted or it might be a "secret recipe" to make our interview HOT & SPICY, not original. :p
I dont know if forming an association is really a right move... nor do I believe that bloggers NEED 1 either. I mean... ... ... why would we need one? what can an association give bloggers?
My dad saw the news & actually asked me about this. I told him: "Well~ I dont think Sabah Bloggers would really bother even if there were an association... plus its probably not what we want now... you know, with how the Malaysian government view bloggers as..."
My dad responded with: "You should form 1. As it protects the rights & common interest of all bloggers."
Personally I dont think an assocaition is neccessary... I mean, give me a reason why? The ONLY COMMON INTEREST ALL BLOGGERS WANT IS TO VOICE THEIR OPINION FREELY. I also fear that it might bring in some politics... I mean lets say lah that in the association there is a "leader"... ... ... why should I listen to this leader? Who died & made you king? I rather be blogging by myself anyway: with no care of any restrction nor "leadership" to tell me what I can blog about or "I should blog this for the good of all bloggers" ... ... ... I mean honestly: Who cares? That's not why I started a blog... ... ... But that's just my opinion.
An association: A voluntary association or union (also sometimes called a voluntary organization, unincorporated association, or just an association) is a group of individuals who voluntarily enter into an agreement to form a body (or organization) to accomplish a purpose.
Strictly speaking in many jurisdictions no formalities are necessary to start an association. In some jurisdictions, there is a minimum for the number of persons starting an association. Some jurisdictions require that the association register with the police or other official body to inform the public of the association's existence. This is not necessarily a tool of political control but much more a way of protecting the economy from fraud. In many such jurisdictions, only a registered association is a juristic person whose membership is not responsible for the financial acts of the association. Any group of persons may, of course, work as an association but in such case, the persons making a transaction in the name of the association are all responsible for it.

I would not speak on behalf of the Bloggers of Sabah, thus I find it is best to open this post to the views of all you readers out there....
Is there a need for a Bloggers Association in Sabah?
Would love to hear your opinion. :)

No thank you~~~
I still prefer personal blogging.
We Sabahans come in peace!
Peace y'all!
News.... Reporters... ^^;;
They tend to change the real story...
personally, bloggers in sabah especially better off without an association although nothing wrong with it. in any situation if blogger association does happen, it won't be in kk or sabah. it better to let more experience and resource to establish one for Malaysia as a whole.
sabah blogger association sound very nice to everyone ears, but i afraid it will be used as a political tools for the pro or anti government. without we realize it, it can be drag to some issues and problem that might be exploited by some people.
i'm very skeptical the intention of the daily express reporter. it seem that she miss quote you all and i think you should demand an apology and correction with it.
hmmmm a blogger speak their own mind. 'nuff said xD
hey, that is why we blog. express ourselves.. we dont want to be binded with this and that just for the sake of something.
i want that freedom of expression.
Haha, "Christmas" sure knows how to write a catchy headline, not mentioning an ability to rock out onstage - we should invite him to SBG2009.
Back to topic: I suggest check with blogging gurus (not the blogging for money gurus, but rather the blogging as the 5th estate gurus) from countries more advanced than us. Example: David Sasaki. Details from Jeff Ooi's blog.
I don't see the need for an association yet - if ever. One thing about blogging is the freedom and this will be limited when we belong to an organisation which has to have rules and regulations...boring!
In my opinion, we don't need an association to represent us. Our blog represent us already - so why bother of making one.
Nanti people with self-interest will make use of the association to gain fame and profit without thinking of any subsequence that befall on us.
yabah WTF man.. nay to forming an association!
association? we are independent blogger.. we meet cause we need some friends.. talking about our social life.. talking about anything.. sharing our experience.. we call it meeting with a new friend.. and not to call it an association.. :) thats mine..

More constructive thoughts and comments posted here than from your other fellow blogger's page (which until up to this point I still don't get her blog's name right, caneliea is it? Whatever). At least no mentioning or questioning about how the writer does his job respectively - which is writing. Well, although I still could see a comment or two saying that the paper has other intentions through the article or what not. Again, whatever.
My two cents worth...
The beauty of journalism - to stir through newswriting and reporting and to get feedback. Whatever the public perceives after that, is another story. A genuine writer/editor will not simply write a story which has no value at all, hence, he skewed the angle of the story from the interview to a more interesting one or should I say more "valuereadable" (rather than writing about some event which happened like three weeks ago - not news worthy at all). And what's this crap about misquoting anywhere from the interview? That's uber-crazy.
Be thankful that the article came out a day after the interview (which is very impossible unless the story is really newsworthy - or at least the writer wrote it as such), on Page 5, in Daily Express.
So if you ask me do Sabah bloggers need an association? My take - Maybe. Only if the Sabahan bloggers are ready to carry themselves to the next level of the blogging era.
And this nonsense about to demand the paper or the writer/editor to apology? Uber-crap.
Whoever is questioning the writer's work is the one who should make a public apology to him (just be thankful that things are still not that "public", or else, it'll be a different case already).
Oh what a heck, he's a just a writer who only writes current news for the main stream paper which actually read by everyone in Sabah. Oh and yea, he's just my brother.
they call me echa is right about the comments posted here..all very constructive..
Canelia (is it correct?) did not think the consequences of her statements from every aspects and angles especially law...
if more bloggers are like her than you all really need that association thing to protect your rights...
Think of Defamation, libel and slander...
one blogger commented :"cannot trust this Chris Maskilone guy"..well at least the "CM trust CM"
For your information Chris Maskilone won many awards for his writing and latest he and his reporting team won merit awards on Sabah Economic Corridor.
In 2006 he was awarded Bintang Setia Kinabalu for his contributions to journalism...
my surname is also Maskilone..
A lone blogger in the face of big brother adversity is a stomped fly!! Give him/her a backing and things are a-happening!!
Ah hah ... fellow JULIAN blogger :-) Happy Merdeka!
