Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival
The 1st KK Jazz fest was held at Jesselton Point.
A stage was set facing the Gaya sea...
lotsa seats waiting to be filled...
stalls selling food / drinks & other goodies...

photographers on the stand by...I spotted this photographer change his camera so quick like he was Jessie James...
It must be a secret kung fu...
From 6:00pm - 7:15pm, the crowd was entertained by various local bands including a jazz group from the students of SIA... ... ... ... not Singapore International Airlines... Sabah Institute of Art lah~...

with an orange back ground like that... this guy looks like he was playing his guitar on a set from the movie: Titanic...
This Jazz fest managed to open some eyes as some jazz group had a different style, fusion & even different musical instrument...
ever heard of the sound from a chinese er-hu in jazz?
This guy giving us an introduction to "Acid" Jazz. Macam Rock...
This dude took the famous church hym "In his time" & gave it some spice.
Go vocal with a Michael Buble song: "Im feeling good".
kof kof... sorry ah~ she so hot I lost concentration what she was singing pulak... =p
Even when night sets in, the crowd is still coming!
and "hantu"s start to appear...

OH NO!!! Its the DIGI GHOST!!! XD
and not forgetting... liang mois... XD
Spotted some bloggers that day too. ^^
I think this is charlene from charlenediana.com

Despite the fact I got my own a seat, I preferred to hang near the stage to take photos... & Im sure many felt the same... ^^"

Later on we got introduced to the genre called "Ethnic jazz"...

This guy could play both the flute & the trumpet... guess he could blow anything. ... ... ... wait that didnt sound right...

Later we got a group called the Jesselton Quintet. A group made up of people from different age, gender & background... but all united in the love for jazz. The members:

I think the leader of the group is this Professor Hanafi who teaches music in UMS. Heck he impress me at 1st by showing me his big toy...

then on a different song showed me he can also play with a long toy~...

And when you think thats the end of it... he played another song~ rock-n-roll style~!!!

Huah! Old Man play Rock Jazz kah??? XD
The next 1 need no real introduction, it's our own home grown heroes: Double Take!

This duo of Roger Wang & Mia Palencia were greeted with cheers the moment they gone on stage...

Mia's powerful vocal enthralled many of us that night...
As expected... Double Take has 1s again manage to bring the crowd into the mood & they made all Sabahans proud.
The later performance was by a foreign Jazz team called Son2nos...

playing Latin Jazz & Salsa Fusion...

this band was out to get the crowd dancing!

and they succeed!

They manage to bring some of the people on stage & set the whole Jesselton Point rockin~!
Even the Hantu Digi pun kena rasuk~! XD

Of course this band learned that if you want to get the KK crowd hype? You gotta work hard for it! XD

The Son2nos decided to tune up & give us more latin energy!!! The effect was...

But the moment Mr. Gambus plays his gambus...

OMG~~~... its a fast jazz with an arabic beat!!!

The crowd were like... "What!!!??? Woooooooow~...."
Then slowly without the crowd noticing, Mr. Gambus brings the tune slowly down to something more mellow... he took us from fast arabic beats to soothing P.Ramlee... the crowd even sang along!!!??? 0.o"
if there was a complain about this performance... and that it would be...

Last on the programme... FROM USA~!!! Miss Denise Minifield from California~!!!

Yeah~!!! Rambut Predator~!!! XD
This was another power performance...

despite the age, Miss Denise could still shake her booty~!!!

She seem to make it a point to see the childrens have fun too!

Then she brought up the "bigger children". XD

The crowd gathering closer to the stage (so those of you with seats can bloody forget about just sitting down)! XD

The Jazz fest came to a close.... but believe it or not, the crowd almost didnt want to go home! XD The show went another 30 minutes extra time & everybody really enjoyed themselves! When asked by the organisers: "Do you want another Jazz festival?"
hehe... I m glad I came for KK's 1st Jazz Fest! It was blast!!! and I get to say I was there on the 1st KK Jazz Fest! XD
Cant wait for next year!!!
